We have had a wonderful ten years of leading the way in Country Decorating and feel it is in it's prime time to sell. Country Heart & Home began in March 2001 in humble beginnings in Camp St, Bright. Within 18 months, we had outgrown our leased premises and the opportunity came up for the us to purchase a freehold building in Barnard Street, Bright. It was an 1899 period building which we extensively renovated from a home dwelling to a retail store consisting of 8 rooms with original hardwood floors, heated and air conditioned and tastefully fitted in keeping with a unique American Country theme and commenced business here in September 2002.

We have a unique business that sells an eclectic range of products predominately imported directly from the USA. Selling ranges of everyday giftware, hand made products from local and imported artisans, Christmas decorations all year and a large range of patchwork and quilting fabrics all supporting a tasteful unique American Style country home decorator theme. The suppliers that are dealt with are mostly exclusive to our store.

We have become well known nationally through advertising in various country craft and home decorating magazines throughout our decade of operation. We have a membership of over 250 VIP customer members that have paid to be that, who in turn are given frequent customer rewards and exclusive invitations to events that are held throughout the year. Currently about 8 events are scheduled throughout the year.There has always been a strong emphasis on marketing the store further a field that just the local area and is well known nationally because of this.

Included is a great online store that has operated for over 5 years which compliments the bricks and mortar store. Usually selling around 300-400 lines of product at any one time creating sales that would not necessarily walk through the front door, this site is visited by over 20,000 people internationally per year. Oh What Tangled Threads Wallhanging

I have just completed this awesome wallhanging, totally inspired by my favourite fabrics from Whimsicals called Tangled Threads. I have loved this border fabric from the minute it arrived and was dying to make a wallhanging that would be the must do and must have for every country quilter. I designed the wallhanging using 8 spool blocks, with simple stitched verses across the block sashings futher complimented with a sawtooth border and finished off with the Tangled Threads border print fabric. I had a ball picking out fabrics to co ordinate and make the wall hanging POP! Finished size is 38" Square making it a great economical quilt as 1m wide pellon works well for the batting and 1m of co ordinating fabric it just perfect for the backing fabric, I used a cute design fabric from Whimsicals covered with buttons in a grey blue. Flannel Days by Kansas Trouble Quilters has just arrived in store this week. They are so yummy!!! It makes want to sew another flannel quilt and I haven't finished quilting the last one I did. All flannel fabrics are $26.50 pm for 20cm+, $24.50 for 50cm+ or $22.50 per 1 metre cut. Flannel fat quarters are $6.75 or 2 for $12.00.

I just had to put this quilt top on the blog the minute I finished it! I'm calling it Flying North for the Winter Flannel Quilt. 80 flying geese blocks!! Mad you say but I have discovered an easy solution to so many flying geese, it's called the one seam flying geese, yes just one seam and you are done no ruling on the back of background squares.... i completed all 80 blocks in about 1 hour!! Yep it was that easy, stay tuned for more information regarding kits available for this fabulous coloured quilt. For those of you interested in our Spring Fling Retreat, I will be doing a workshop for those interested in learning how to do this amazing quick and easy block!!

Spring Fling Quilter's Gathering 2011

Well the year is slipping away from us with nearly two months of winter almost over it's time to think about our Spring Fling Quilter's Gathering 2011. A perfect weekend at another of Bright's most wonderful times of the year, the days are longer, the weather is beautiful, the trees are green , the daffodils and blossoms are out, simply breathtaking!! A great time to getaway before the silly season and the downward spiral to Christmas. A time to make or finish Christmas presents, the quilt that you just must finish before the end of the year or grab a project from our store, we have plenty!!!

By popular demand we are going back to River Lodge at the Bright Caravan and Camping Ground just off Cherry Street, first right off Delany Avenue after the Morses Creek Bridge. It has 10 rooms with 2 sets of bunks (2-3 people per room) Bathroom is shared between two rooms, very private, lovely and clean and bright and cheery. The large lounge and dining areas are perfect to set up for sewing or handwork lounging on the couches and window seats looking out at the lovely park or setting up your machine for some serious sewing!! Great natural lighting, Peaceful and perfect!!

New to this event we are including a Show and Tell Quilt hanging afternoon on Saturday 15th October, weather permitting we will be hanging your quilts through the trees outside the River Lodge. There will be prizes for the best quilt and wallhanging!! So don't be shy and bring some of your beautiful quillts for all of us to appreciate and admire.

We will have lots of great new projects available to purchase to create or you can use this weekend as a time to finished all those UFO's or Christmas presents.

The cost for this fun weekend includes 2 nights accommodation (twin share), Friday night dinner, all meals Saturday, Sunday Breakfast and Lunch with departure in the afternoon. Cost per person is $199.00. Deposit of $50 to be paid by 25th August balance paid by 30th September.

Well it's a chilly frosty morning here in Bright and can you believe it has already been snowing on the hills around Bright. I thought I'd send you a little preview (look up)!!!

Hence it has got me in the mood for CHRISTMAS IN WINTERTIME!!!!!!! This year is proving to even top off last year, it that's possible. It just blows me away each year when I go buying how much quality, beautiful and unique Christmas decorations there are available and how exciting it is to piece it all together and show you how fantastic it all can look. Because our event is a month later the Christmas stock that will be in store is nearly TWICE as much as before, it's gonna be a tight squeeze!!!! But it is going to look FANTASTIC!!! There are lots of gorgeous tin decorations, new trees, glass decorations, garlands, ornaments, gorgeous table centres and so much more!!

Saturday will begin at 10am sharp with the big man himself SANTA!!!! We will have lucky door prizes, on the day specials and our first free raffle is drawn at 11am and every hour on the hour after that. (Winner or Friend must be present) Mid afternoon our INFAMOUS GLUHWEIN and ROASTED CHESTNUTS WILL BE SERVED.

A WOOLLY WINTER'S DAY WORSHOP

Well we finally have room in store for classes!!! Yay!! Yep we have renovated again and I think we have finally come up with the perfect fit for our store, take a look on our blog for pictures of the renovations.

For those of you that came to our Autumn Quilter's Gathering, there was an interest in working with wool fabric and felt, so I have come up with....

A WOOLLY WINTER'S DAY WORKSHOP

You are invited to our next all day workshop on Wednesday 3rd August and Saturday 13th August. Spaces are limited to maximum 8 people per class (minimum 4 people to run class). Begins at 10am until 5pm. You will make a gorgeous wool felt and wool fabric applique pillow complimented with penny rug fabric backing. See above for finished product which measures approx 45cm square.

Cost for the day is $65 this includes kit for pillow ie. All felt, wool fabric, fabric, freezer paper, dmc thread, stuffing and a delicious lunch, morning and afternoon tea with endless tea and coffee.

We've been Renovating Again...........

Well hello everyone, We have been busy re-arranging our Fabric part of the store. The room above now looks so huge and we have room for Classes!!! now...YAY.. The first of which will be in early August called a Warm Woolly Winter's Day, this class will be to learn how to make a Woollen Table Runner with Applique. Stay tuned for more details.
Above is our new cutting and work station, we've added more room for fabric and are stocking a huge range of new fabrics from moda, red rooster and henry glass just to name a few.
We have a huge range of flannel fabric in store and everyone that has been in the store lately has been going flannel made...cold enough here to snuggle up with a flannel quilt at night here, it's been freezing. Another great quilt inspired recently at our Autumn Quilter's Gathering by talented quilter Gareth Adams. In this quilt we have used the latest craze, a disappearing nine patch block. A Blackbird at Crabapple Village

Our latest flannel quilt design called A Blackbird at Crabapple Village. This quilt is stunning! The border and block background fabric is from a range called Harvest Town by Red Rooster fabrics and it just makes this quilt. The design was inspired by a very talented lady and friend Kim Growden who recently made a similar quilt at our Autumn Quilter's Gathering. The quilt uses 10 different red fabrics for houses, 5 different cream fabrics for doors and 4 different black fabrics for the roofs, all combined it gives a great overall effect, i think what tops it off is our little blackbird with a felt vine flying through the village. Autumn Quilter's Gathering Bright 2011

Thank you to all the ladies and gent! that attended our 1st Autumn Quilter's Gathering here in Bright. Your feedback and comments have been extremely positive and supportive and no doubt this will become an annual event. The weather was wonderful, the venue was perfect for a cosy retreat and everyone sewed up a storm!! The food was delicious according to all your survey reviews and seeing all the finished projects come to fruition over the weekend was the icing on the cake to Dianne and I. Since the sale of Homespun Memories and the addition of it to Country Heart & Home, we have been very busy filling up our shelves with endless new products, fabrics and kits. For those of you that have visited since our amalgamation you would see that we just don't have the space in our store for classes on a regular basis. Dianne and I have been wondering what we could do to get all our quilter's and sewers together for a weekend of craft, sewing, food and fun and It gives me great pleasure to offer you a wonderful Patchwork & Quilter's Weekend Retreat from Friday 20th May to Sunday 22nd May. This will be a weekend of catch up on UFO projects, help to get started on something new or start on one of the many projects we will have new and ready to go in Kit form. Dianne and myself will be here for all your quilting, sewing and crafting questions and help. We are of the strong philosophy that Quilting and Craft is about gathering together, sharing and laughing all in the one mix, so this will definitely be a fun weekend to relax and enjoy!

We have found a hidden gem of a location right smack dab here in the middle of Bright! Less than a 2 minute walk to our store, which means Country Heart & Home will be open to you virtually 24/7, perfect for a late night dash to get some fabric or thread! Once you park your car you will not need to get into it for the whole weekend! How relaxing is that!!!

It's called River Lodge at the Bright Caravan and Camping Ground just off Cherry Street, first right off Delany Avenue after the Morses Creek Bridge. It has 10 rooms with 2 sets of bunks (2-4 people per room) Bathroom is shared between two rooms, very private, lovely and clean and bright and cheery. The large lounge and dining areas are perfect to set up and sew either lounging on the couches and window seats looking out at the lovely park or setting up your machine for some serious sewing!! Great natural lighting, Peaceful and perfect!!

There will be 9 projects in all over 2 days. 3 Patchwork / Applique Projects, 3 Wool Felt projects and 3 Scrapbooking projects. Cost each day is $45 or $80 for the weekend. A Cosy Evening at Timber Creek

This is a stunning flannel quilt designed by Dianne Barnes. She has used a beautiful range of fabric called Timber Creek by Holly Taylor. It sports a woodland theme with bears, mooses, trout, spruce in glorious warm tones of butter, rust, spruce, chocolate and cream. It has been accented brilliantly with a chocolate basket weave frame and olive checked border.

Here is our first signature quilt. We are thrilled with how well this stunning quilt has come out. Designed by Dianne Barnes and Amanda Ralph it features a beautiful new range of fabric from Whimsical Quilts called Vintage Homestead with a crow, quilt and primitive theme. It has several stunning borders, including a tumbling spool border, an appliqued border, zig zag flying geese border with a central ohio star and crow appliqued motif completed by final border with corner stones. Finished quilt measures approx 62" x 62" and is perfect for the intermediate quilter. Kit includes all top fabric, buttons and pattern. The Colours of Autumn in Bright

Sorry it's been so long but we have been so busy here in Bright. The town has been pumping since Easter and now with the Autumn Festival. Scrapbooking Class Sample for Thursday 30th April

Here are some pics of the stunning Lunch Box tin and accordian album that you will make if you sign up for this class being held at 7.30pm on Thursday 30th April, I have used my favourtie Kaisercraft Paper, Dancing Jewel and embellished it with ribbons and paper punched a border for the tin. I have kept it fairly simple so that it can be accomplished on the night you could add flowers and more bling on the night or later if you have time, I just wanted it to be ready to put photos in for a Mother's Day gift, to keep yourself or for a special friend. Cost for this class is $30.00 hope to see you there!!!

Well here is the long awaited Beach House fabric range from Blackbird Designs there are over 30 different bolts and the colours are just stunning. This has been selling like hotcakes, so we will not be kitting up a quilt as the larger border florals are selling too fast to keep any for kits!!!Price is just $22.50 per metre and $6.00 per fat quarter for 2 or more. We have however designed a wall hanging, table topper using a charm square pack, it is called "Pinwheels in the garden" designed by our resident quilter, Dianne Barnes, kit includes charm squares and all border fabrics, pellon and backing fabric finished size is 42" x 33" and cost is $59.95 plus postage.

Beach House by Blackbird Designs a stunning Moda Fabric range is now in store. This range is selling like hotcakes!!!! Scrapbooking Class List and Samples

Welcome back to our AUTUMN season of classes, we have so many new and exciting projects planned for the next few months, we hope you can come to as many as possible because we have had so much fun creating them.

All classes will only go ahead with a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 8. Upon booking a single class, payment is due in full, if booking multiple classes a 50% deposit is to be paid with the balance due no less than 5 days prior to the class. Cancellation on your behalf prior to class means your deposit is forfeited. If you do not show up for a class you will forfeit your full class fee. If a class does not meet the minimum of 5 a full refund or other class option will be offered. Sorry it sounds so tough but there will be people who would have liked to take your place if you don’t show up, and to keep costs down we need to have full classes. Thanks for understanding.

For Each Adult class it is essential that you MUST bring: Sharp scissors, pencil, ruler, rubber, paper trimmer with blade & scorer and double sided tape. These items are available to purchase on the night or in store. All our classes require a little knowledge on how to scrapbook, if you haven’t scrapped before let us know and we’ll organise a beginner’s class.

ALL CLASSES BEGIN AT 7.30PM AND USUALLY FINISH AT 10.30PM ISH UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED. REFRESHMENTS ARE PROVIDED, PLEASE BE AT CLASS AT 7.15 FOR A QUICK START

We recommend that all evening classes are for persons 13 years or older. Kid’s classes are held for ages 9 and above. If you child is younger but you think they are capable they must be accompanied by an adult helper.

Learn how to make a stunning giveaway album out of three gusseted paper bags. You will also learn stamping, punching, brads and layout designs that you can use for all sorts of albums. A very girly album with lots of pink and orange and lots of bling.

THURSDAY 2nd APRIL - FAMILY LACED CARDS - COST $20.00- BEG - INT
We have used some stunning paper from Daisy D’s to create this fun accordian laced card with the word FAMILY represented, bring about 8 photos with you to complete this on the night. We will be using the CRICUT to create all the words and shapes.

THURSDAY 16TH APRIL - MY FAVOURITE COOKIES MDF ALBUM - COST $25.00 INTERMEDIATE
For those of you that made our Recipe Tin, this matches perfectly. For those that didn’t this is a fun album complete with 6 cookie recipes and lots of embellishments. This looks so good, you could give it away or keep it for yourself.

This is a fantastic range of fabric from Andover Fabrics called Halfway Cafe. It is actually a design from Cosmo Cricket a scrapbooking company and is also available in 12" x 12" Paper. Great for co-ordinating a look in a bedroom. This quilt would look perfect in a teenager's room or if you like the Americana look, it has a retro feel. We have kitted this quilt up with a free pattern from Andover Fabrics, it includes all fabrics including borders and binding for the cost of $125.00 (It does not include backing fabric or batting however we do offer a 20% discount for these if purchasing a kit) Finished quilt measures 55" x 68". We have staff that are happy to help you co-ordinate your page or off the page projects. We have lots of samples made up to inspire you. We run scrapbooking classes every two weeks on a Thursday evening 7.30 - 10.30pm and kid's scrapbooking classes every two weeks on Thursdays after school 3.45 - 5.00pm.
